The Haynesville Shale natural gas discovery has provided an economic boom to Shreveport-Bossier and the surrounding areas. This natural gas play covers most of the northwest corner of the state and is considered the largest natural gas discovery in the contiguous 48 states. Companies such as Chesapeake Energy, BHP Billiton, and Schlumberger have located regional offices and operations in the area.
